In my final semester at Pratt Institute I focused my thesis on Cowboys, and how the current cultural phenomenon challenges the past.

At the end of the project I decided to move my focus to a more topical lens. The rise of lil hank williams and lil nas x were parallel in subject but not in reception, mason being invited to the grand ole opry while lamar’s song was pulled from the country charts. This book was intended to be physically interacted with, the first page gives you a score card, so as you go through you could rank if you would place the lyric on the country or r&b chart. The end reveals where they chart and examines the racism in music marketing / country music and the barriers of entry for black artists to create anything other than “rhythm & blues.”
